You may be comparing flooring types for your home remodel or construction project. For example, you might b drawn to the beauty and appeal of hardwood but prefer the price and practicality of laminate. See the differences below:

HARDWOOD FLOORING

Hardwood has been a popular option because of how it enhances any room. It's available in different wood species and styles, and is versatile for various design schemes, including traditional, contemporary, rustic and country. Hardwood floors are made to last for decades and can be refinished multiple times. However, they can be expensive and should not be used in humid climates because the floor will absorb moisture, warp, buckle and crack.

LAMINATE FLOORING

Laminate is less expensive than hardwood but not as durable. It cannot be refinished and must be replaced when it's worn. Its longevity is based on the quality, the thickness of the wear layer as well as the amount and type of traffic on the floor. This is possibly a better option for households with children and pets because of its resistance to scratches and probable damage. You can find laminate that resembles hardwood, but unlike natural and genuine hardwood, laminate is plywood with a wood picture and a protective resin layer over it.
